Melissa the Mouse: My Giant, 12/08/11 Gratiana Lovelace (Post #73)

I met a giant (1) once, quite by accident.
He was tall, dark, and handsome—the other humans said.
As a mouse, I couldn’t tell if he was ordinary looking or magnificent.
Since on the ground, I was too far from his head. (2 image right, puzzle)

I wouldn’t have known anyway,
If the Giant had a gaze that would smoulder.
Because as a lady mouse (3) I am not prey
To human views about male beauty–it being in the eye of the beholder.

Though human fur seems to change at whim,
Unlike my own fur that stays a soft gray.
The giant changed his fur, with his face looking a tad grim (4 image right, puzzle),
Whenever the camera was pointed his way.

But when the other humans turned their attention,
Away from him, the giant seemed to smile and shine.
Perhaps this giant failed to mention
That he is shy about being considered so fine.

In any event, our meeting was momentous,
Mostly because my presence caused a little stir.
These humans (5) looked curiously at me, the small tiny mouse.
Perhaps wondering if I were a him, or a her.

I, too, wondered about these tall men,
What did they think of poor little me?
As a mice girl, I am quite beyond their ken.
So, I let them alone–and went in search of some brie (6).

At least I (7) can say with great relief,
That my chance meeting with the giant ended well.
For it is my fervently held, lady mouse belief,
That for inter species friendships, only time will tell.
