Our grown nephew died suddenly and unexpectedly Saturday morning from an undiagnosed health condition. He was a loving husband and a doting father of a young daughter who was Daddy’s girl. He was a son. And he was our nephew.
When I first married into the family, our nephew was a little shy and just into his twenties. But he was always nice and helpful to all–especially to his mom, his grandpa, and to his great aunt. Then later on, my husband even employed our nephew for many years in the small retail store that my husband managed. Then our nephew fell in love and started his own family–and busy lives and living in different cities took its toll. We wished that we had seen more of he and his family in the last couple of years. But now it is too late, because he is no more.
Our nephew was a good man–not a great man of great deeds, just a solid every day fellow. He was a nice man who died too soon. The world is made up of every day nice men like him–important to those who know them. But now, the world is less one good and nice man–and we mourn him.
This lovely video is for our nephew:
“K.D. Lang sings Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah” in a video by oneandonlyck
Our lives are but a short span–and the people we love pass in and out of it. Love each other each day, be generous with hugs, and don’t stint on telling people you love them. You may not get another chance to do so.
P.S. And Ladies, please pester your man/relative to get medical attention when they don’t feel well. Generally, the men I have known–including my hubby–are too stoic for their own good. A general rule of thumb is if they are complaining about feeling poorly, then it is something to be attended to by a doctor because it might be the harbinger of something more serious. And health conditions found early can often be healed or cured.
And fellas, please take care of yourselves, your families need you. This goes for ladies, too.
I’m so so sorry Grati. My condolences to you and your family. Take care, hon. *hugs*

I am very sad to hear about your family’s loss. It is even worse when young children are left without a father. Thanks for the song. K.D. Lang’s version of this song is truly inspirational.

Grati, I am truly sorry to hear of this loss. We lost a nephew very suddenly a few years ago at the tender age of 22. In Jeff’s case, health issues from birth did not give him a long life expectancy, but he had beaten the odds so many times, it was easy to forget that. And you are right about men and stoicism. My husband walked around for more than a week with a leg broken in two places. We need to prod them from time to time.
We’ll keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Grati my dear. My heart goes out to you and your family at this sad time and I weep with you. To lose someone is always hard but doubly so when the death is sudden, unexpected and the loved one so young. Be assured that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
I don’t think anyone sings Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah better than K.D. She sang it here in Vancouver at the Winter Olympics in 2010 and it was very moving, so I can understand why you chose it.

Dear Teuchter,
Thank you for your lovely note. He was only 44, still with much life left to live. We still can’t quite wrap our minds around that he is gone. KD Lang’s rendition of this song is very moving and heartfelt.
Hugs, Grati
