Illinois Native Tami Lane Oscar Nominated for THAUJ Make-up and Hairstyling, February 20, 2013 Gratiana Lovelace (Post #366)

I am so ecstatic that Illinois Native Tami Lane (right, pictured with Richard Armitage) and TamiLaneandRichardArmitageTHAUJFeb1813StateJournalRegisterSpfldIL_ShrpHiRescolleagues are nominated for an Oscar for their Make-up and Hairstyling work on “The Hobbit:  An Unexpected Journey” (THAUJ).  She created the makeup for Thorin Oakenshield (portrayed by Richard Armitage) and Dwalin (portrayed by Graham McTavish).

I think Ms. Lane–who earned an Oscar in 2006 for her work on “The Chronicles of Narnia”–did an outstanding job designing and then creating the look of Thorin and Dwalin for THAUJ!

Here are before and after shots of the actors for you to decide for yourself:

The transformations of these two actors–from men to Dwarfs–are simply amazing!  As an Illinois girl myself, I will be rooting for Tami Lane to win the Oscar for Make-up and Hair Styling on THAUJ!

To close, I will leave you with this stirring fan made video “Heart of Courage ~ Thorin Oakenshield” by TatyanaOracle:

Nota Bene:  Thanks to Alley Castro who tweeted the link to the State Journal Register article–for “Peoria native in contention for second makeup Oscar” by Danielle Hatch of GateHouse News Service, February 18, 2013–that appeared in The Richard Armitage Daily yesterday, which is where I saw the link.

The article by Danielle Hatch had earlier appeared in the Peoria Journal Star on February 13, 2013 titled “Tami Lane has sights on second Oscar with work on ‘Hobbit’”.

About Gratiana Lovelace

Gratiana Lovelace is my nom de plume for my creative writing and blogging. I write romantic stories in different sub genres. The stories just tumble out of me. My resurgence in creative writing occurred when I viewed the BBC miniseries of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel North & South in February 2010. The exquisitely talented British actor portraying the male lead John Thornton in North & South--Richard Crispin Armitage--became my unofficial muse. I have written over 50 script stories about love--some are fan fiction, but most are original stories--that I am just beginning to share with others on private writer sites, and here on my blog. And as you know, my blog here is also relatively new--since August 2011. But, I'm having fun and I hope you enjoy reading my blog essays and my stories. Cheers! Grati ;-> upd 12/18/11

  3. 2/21/13–Thanks to Inge the “Crispin’s Eclipse” blogger for sharing this link to the moving final scene of THAUJ (in a video by thepetrificustotalus):

I have seen THAUJ three times now–2D 24 fps, 3D 24 fps, and 3D 48 fps–and the film takes my breath away every time. I have my dvd copy on order, but I think I am going to have to see THAUJ in the theatres at 3D one more time because the visuals and sound of the theatre experience is so extraordinary.
