Fun Day Sunday: Grati Encourages Opening Weekend Viewing of Richard Armitage’s New Film, Into the Storm, in Chicago and Elsewhere, May 11, 2014 Gratiana Lovelace (Post #563)

Grati’s Interpretive RA Fan Syllogism:

Film Industry Truism (major premise): Opening weekend ticket sales can make or break a Into-the-Storm-US-Movie-Poster-May1114ITS-WB_wCredits-manipfilm’s subsequent success.   With the reasoning being that the more people who see a film–and the bigger the box office sales–this encourages others to give a film a chance and see the film, thus increasing overall box office sales and a film’s ranking of success based on ticket sales.

RA-ism (minor premise): The exquisitely talented British actor/storyteller Richard Armitage has a new film (ITS movie poster right), Into the Storm (ITS), whose U.S. opening weekend is August 8-10th, 2014. For all countries film release/opening dates for Into the Storm, visit this ITS page.

RA Fani-ism (conclusion):   A lot of people viewing Richard Armitage’s new film, Into the Storm, during its opening weekends around the world–in particular August 8-10th in the U.S.–will help promote ticket sales, which in turn can help promote the success of the film.

Still with me?  So are you up for a road trip to Chicago on Friday August 8th or Saturday August 9th to see Richard Armitage’s new film, Into the Storm?

For a while now, I have been informally batting around the idea  about how lovely it would be if RA Fans/Admirers encouraged each other to see his new film, Into the Storm, on its opening weekend–as I mentioned in the comments to my post about wanting a nearby ArmitageCon type convention. I’m sure others have also thought of promoting opening weekends, too.

For me, seeing RA’s film Into the Storm means heading to my nearest big city IntotheStorm-10-RichardArmitage-asGaryMorris_Sept2012ranet-sizedhub–Chicago, Illinois–to view it during the U.S. opening weekend of Saturday, August 9th. (Richard Armitage portraying Asst. Principal Gary Morris, right courtesy of RANet)

And what would make seeing the Into the Storm film doubly fun would be to share the experience with fellow Richard Armitage Fans by as many of us who can and who wish to, meeting up to view the film together at the same movie theatre in Chicago.

GRAssroots Organizing Effort

Of course, just as Richard Armitage, himself, has said that he wants no official fan web site, our ideas as fans/admirers of Richard Armitage to encourage attendance at this and his other film or theatre performances are fluid and just for fun amongst ourselves.

But I have helped organize annual conferences for a couple of community and university organizations over the last 25 years, so some initial pertinent planning details come to mind were I to put on my event organizers hat for a Chicago based viewing (other cities on the coasts or South, etc., would be on their own for organizing their own local viewing):

Chicago Movie Theatre selection will depend upon who is showing it (let’s hope it plays in Chicago) and their show times–with everyone responsible for buying their own ticket online ahead of time. But potential meet up and film times might be (purely guessing on film times based on current AMC Theatre on Michigan Avenue other film show times).

Of course, my musings here are all pie in the sky, but they could begin to crystallize fairly quickly if enough of you would like to attend an Into the Storm film viewing in Chicago.
(Grati’s earlier mock ITS movie poster, right)

And here is that Warner Bros. Pictures Into the Storm teaser trailer again:

Cheers!   Grati ;->

P.S. And you might recall my little excitement about almost guessing Richard Armitage’s character name of Gary (Tweet below, courtesy of Into the Storm Producer Todd Garner’s TwitterFeed)

P.S. Grati’s RAndom Final Thoughts

If the U.S. Into the Storm movie Premiere–location unknown, but LA or NYC are presumed–is a few days ahead of its August 8th U.S. release, how might that impact a Chicago RA Fans/Admirers meet up?

And on the off chance that the Premiere for Into the Storm movie about a tornado might actually be held in a large city in the Midwest where tornadoes are likely to occur–such as Chicago or St. Louis, etc.,–with the prospect of red carpet sightings of some stars, would we want to shift to attend that?

Given that Richard Armitage is obligated for performing as John Proctor in The Crucible from June 24 – September 13 at The Old Vic in London, England, one wonders how much Into the Storm press and premiere events that he can attend? With a London, August 22 Into the Storm Premiere, might that be one of only a few that he attends–since he wouldn’t have the extended days of travel impacting his theatre schedule?

P.S. Off Topic, but apropos for today:  Happy Mother’s Day!

About Gratiana Lovelace

Gratiana Lovelace is my nom de plume for my creative writing and blogging. I write romantic stories in different sub genres. The stories just tumble out of me. My resurgence in creative writing occurred when I viewed the BBC miniseries of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel North & South in February 2010. The exquisitely talented British actor portraying the male lead John Thornton in North & South--Richard Crispin Armitage--became my unofficial muse. I have written over 50 script stories about love--some are fan fiction, but most are original stories--that I am just beginning to share with others on private writer sites, and here on my blog. And as you know, my blog here is also relatively new--since August 2011. But, I'm having fun and I hope you enjoy reading my blog essays and my stories. Cheers! Grati ;-> upd 12/18/11

    So excited about this! I’ve been hoping for a get-together! It’s been a long time since the last one. Count me in!

    • Hi Charlotte, Dear Friend!
      That’s great! Whether we end up with a few people, or “more than a few people” wanting to join us in Chicago for the ITS film viewing RA Fan meet up, this should be a fun event.
      Just ask Judiang, I’m cheerful times 10. Ha! She impishly tweeted about my “squeeeing” with her at the THAUJ 3D HFR showing that we saw together back in December 2012. Of course, when I told my hubby, I had to explain what “squeeeing” was–no floor clean up required. Ha!
      Cheers! Grati ;->

    Just substitute NYC for Chicago. Let me know if you are interested in participating in an NYC event! At this point, leave a comment or email me at marieastra8@gmail.com. YAY!

  5. May 11, 2014–First Chicago and now NYC U.S. ITS Film viewing RA’s Fangirl meet ups are being planned.

    Are there any RA U.S. Fans in the South East, South, South West, West Coast, North West, Northern Plains States, Middle Plains States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, etc., thinking about meeting up to see Into the Storm in your area?

    Then there are RA Fans on other continents and in other hemispheres for your countries’ ITS film release dates–note the ITS film release dates by country link in my post above–who might also wish to see the film in their areas and have a fan meet up.

    Hmmm. If this train starts rolling with more “cars”, we might want to set up a central website for an RA’sFangirls ITS film viewing meet ups listings–to link back to the various planners sites. The different locales ITS viewing meeting event RAFan planners/instigators (Ha!)–and I’m still hoping to keep this low key in terms of planning for the Chicago gathering (more fun that way)–can consult with each other if it comes to that.

    We could also help each other bat around ideas, combine forces for the request to Warner Brothers and Newline for ITS swag for attendees (nametag lanyards, key chains, mugs, t-shirts, etc.). I wonder if they have any of those tornado preparedness kits left over from giving them to the press?

    Well, this matches our group’s idea of a trial-run ArmiCon regional/global gatherings to prepare for The Hobbit: Thorin, aka Battle of the Five Armies in December… We’ll work on setting this up with our members ASAP.

    ANYONE WHO WANTS TO JOIN IN IS VERY WELCOME… We’re all members of the same tribe, after all. Some have been members longer than others, but we’re all RArmy members!

    A fantastic idea. And Grati’s centralized place where the opening night viewing parties can be found is also, which sounds a bit like the TheOneRing.Net Line Party organization page they set up. It would be good to see that happen.

    • Hi crystalchandlyre,
      Thanks for the reblog and your nice note! I’ll work with Marie Astra (planning for NYC) and others to see about setting up a central site for “Into the Storm” fan gathering viewing–to help RA Fans/Admirers refer to the gathering nearest them–and that the lead planner for each location would have access to to update their own info as needed.
      Cheers! Grati ;->

  8. May 12, 2014–Grati will work with other RAFans organizing an “Into the Storm” opening weekend viewing in their cities to create a central hub website–with links for the various cities’ events. Ideally, this website would also allow the lead organizer who is planning their city’s event to log in and update their own info.

    So far, I know of the following cities where RAFan ITS viewings and gatherings are hoping to be planned (with the lead organizer listed):

    Chicago–Grati (of this blog), et al
    NYC–Marie Astra (of the Obsessive Behavior blog), et al

    If you are also thinking about organizing an ITS opening weekend RA Fan viewing for your city–whether it be in the U.S. or around the world (see list of opening dates by country in my blog post above)–please reply to this comment and I will add you to the list, etc.

    Please also share your ideas about the format of and features in a central hub event website that you would like to see.

    I’m off to the office, now. Have a gReAt Monday! Thanks and Cheers! Grati ;->

    • Hi Obscura!
      That’s gReAt! Thanks for your offer of planning help. The more the merrier. Getting the word out to encourage other RAFans to see Into the Storm on its opening weekend for their country–and maybe encourage them to also plan an RAN Fan group viewing is the first step.

      And I don’t know where you live–U.S. or elsewhere. Are you hoping to go to either Chicago or NYC Into the Storm viewing, or will you see if you can plan a viewing in your area, and on your country’s opening weekend date–if you’re not U.S.? If the latter, please let me know what city,country it is, and I will add it/you to my initial event list above.

      Thanks and Cheers! Grati ;->

          It’s cool that you are in Wisconsin and nearby! We will definitely call upon you for some help and input!
          I have contacted WB to find out which Chicago Theatres are slated to show Into the Storm and about promotional items. I’ll share more when I know it. Probably in a Sunday post (this week is super busy for me–plus, I have to rest the eyes a bit, in between posts. Tuesday and Friday are slated for my story chapter.

    May I humbly make some suggestions? The Michigan Ave AMC is a little far from the train stations. Can we meet at MacGuffins at the AMC River East for lunch/drinks? There is a 21 and up age limitation, but one can bring their drink into the movie. The River East theater offers parking validation for a $15 for 4 hours. (Michigan Ave does not have a validation deal.) For post-movie enjoyment, we could head over to Russian Tea Time for dinner and conversation. (Lucas +Thornton!) The restaurant is close enough to the Art Institute is anyone wants to pick up any Monet items in their gift shop. (Also convenient to the train and Millennium or Grant Park garages.) Depending on the size and transportation choices of the group, there are other interesting possibilities. I’m in the ‘burbs now, but with my dentist still on Michigan Ave, so I get downtown a minimum of 2 times per year. Usually more than that. Glad to help! Also- I think it would be brilliant if each site with a get together could sign a birthday card wishing him well for Richard.

    • These are all great suggestions! As I mentioned to you earlier, It may have been the AMC theatre that you mention that Judiang and I were at. And I love the Art Institute! Thanks for sharing!

      P.S. And the birthday card for RA idea is an interesting one. I have tended to go with existing RA birthday efforts in the past–such as what Ali at RANet does. She has the mechanism in place for collecting birthday wishes and transmitting them to RA. So there are multiple options to ponder on birthday wishes. ;->
