“Falling in love with you again”, Richard Armitage as John Thornton in “North & South”, November 09, 2014 Gratiana Lovelace (Post #657)

Remembering that the 10th Anniversary of the broadcast of the BBC’s “North & South” in 2004 will be upon us on November 14th, 2014, here is a lovely little video by Danielle Hernandez reminding us why we are still “Falling in love with” the exquisitely talented British actor Richard Armitage again and again. Have a gReAt day! Cheers! Grati ;->

North and South – Falling

“The song is Falling by Keri Noble.”

And here are a few of my favorite portraits of Richard Armitage as the honorable John Thornton (courtesy of RANet or my cap):

So congratulations upon your upcoming 10th Anniversary of sharing John Thornton in “North & South” with us, Mr. Armitage. You have enriched and gladdened our lives in ways too numerous to mention and more cherished than you will ever know.

And as endlessly appealing as Richard Armitage [below, 2013THDofS German Premiere] is in this and in his many other character portrayals, the gentlemanly man himself who is warm, compassionate, good, witty, humble, gracious, philanthropic, honorable, and a dedicated theatrical artist (be it film, the stage, television or audiobook), etc., he has my deep respect, my admiration, and my very good wishes for his future endeavors.

About Gratiana Lovelace

Gratiana Lovelace is my nom de plume for my creative writing and blogging. I write romantic stories in different sub genres. The stories just tumble out of me. My resurgence in creative writing occurred when I viewed the BBC miniseries of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel North & South in February 2010. The exquisitely talented British actor portraying the male lead John Thornton in North & South--Richard Crispin Armitage--became my unofficial muse. I have written over 50 script stories about love--some are fan fiction, but most are original stories--that I am just beginning to share with others on private writer sites, and here on my blog. And as you know, my blog here is also relatively new--since August 2011. But, I'm having fun and I hope you enjoy reading my blog essays and my stories. Cheers! Grati ;-> upd 12/18/11

  1. Nov. 9 & 14, 2014–Thanks for liking this post!

    Herba, Hariclea, LadyButterfly, and phylly3

  2. Nov.09, 2014–And the Richard Armitage US blog hosted by M has also been touting the N&S 10th anniversary widely–with a fun global fans selfie twist:

  3. Nov. 9, 2014–Thanks to the RA Fan Page for Tweeting (and RA US for retweeting) a petition page to ask Madame Tussaud’s to create a Richard Armitage figure, given his high profile status in The Hobbit trilogy of films portraying Thorin Oakenshield:

P.S. Oh to be the measuring assistant. Sighhh! Kkkkh! Did I just type that? Ha!

  4. Nov. 09, 2014–RANet posted today that she has collected all known Richard Armitage messages to various fan “boards” into one handy spot. Bless Ali for that!

As I read backwards in time, I perceived a real sense of RA’s joyful youthful spirit, not constrained by projecting a certain image of himself. And I sense that we are seeing that carefree and quirky humor again with some of his current tweets (porkface, anyone? Ha!). Enjoy!

  5. Nov. 09, 2014–Servetus (Thanks!) pointed me to the blog address of someone whom I had recently seen a few tweets by, Andrew Novialdi.

And, he has a N&S Review (which I haven’t read yet, but post the links for you here anyway):

    Part 1: http://andrewnovialdi.com/blog/north-south-2004-reviewrichard-armitage-will-melt-puddle-fudgy-gooey-mess/

Loved this quote at the beginning of Part 1 though (Ha!):
“Whenever Armitage plays the clean-cut, well-put-together, highly sophisticated man, the screen always light up like the first day of Creation.”

    Part 2: http://andrewnovialdi.com/blog/north-south-2004-review-richard-armitage-will-melt-fudgy-gooey-mess-part-2/

Here is Servetus’ post link that that pointed me to Andrew: http://meandrichard.wordpress.com/2014/11/10/heres-a-new-heavily-richard-armitage-blog-to-follow/

  6. Kitty says:

Thank you for bringing this vid to my attn. It reminded me why I fell.

    • Hi Kitty,
Thanks for your nice note! You’re most welcome! This is a lovely N&S fan made video set to the perfect song. It sparked memories in me as well, of when I first experienced Richard Armitage as John Thornton in North & South in February 2010 as a local library dv rental. I was so transfixed by the love story of Richard Armitage as John Thornton and Daniella Denby-Ashe as Margaret Hale–especially by the closing train station kissing scene–that I kept renewing the dvd rental weekly until my own copy arrived–five weeks later. Ha!
Thanks for visiting and commenting. Love & Cheers! Grati;->

  7. Nov. 13, 2014–Jennie C tweeted a lovely N&S 10th anniversary graphic:

  8. Nov. 14, 2014–And Armitagina tweeted her tumblr link for this lovely John Thornton at your doorstep gif (Sighhh!):

    Tumblr post link: http://armitagina.tumblr.com/post/102550374233/north-south-10th-anniversary

As Kitty pointed out on FB, the small expectant smile on John’s face here is charming, his nervousness palpable.

Grati: The subtleties in Richard Armitage’s nuanced performance in portraying John Thornton in North & South (2004) never cease to amaze me!

  9. Nov.14, 2014–Eileen FF shares a lovely N&S 2004 image of Margaret Hale (portrayed by Daniela Denby-Ashhe) and John Thornton (portrayed by Richard Armitage at the Great Exhibition:

Grati: As a petite lady, there is something so delightful in being able to fit my head underneath my man’s chin when embracing him. Sighhh! We petite ladies, like our tall men.

  10. Nov. 14, 2014–And, of course, for posterity, I have to include the lovely N&S kissing gif by Reema at her tempella tumblr that I have in my sidebar link to her N&S fan fic links listing:

Grati: Something “unfurls” inside of me when I see Richard Armitage as John kiss Margaret.

  11. Nov. 14, 2014–Giggles! A cute John rolling eyes while his sister Fanny “sings” gif series by MezzmerizedbyRichard tumblr:

  12. Nov. 14, 2014–Tweeted by Richard Armitage:

To which I/Grati replied: LOL! Fella, It’s not the size of the hat,but the man who wears it. And you wore it very well. Happy 10th Anniversary of N&S!

  13. Nov. 14, 2014–Summer RAfandreamer (THanks!) shared this link with an essay about N&S turning 10 by Sarah Seltzer (lots of nice gifs, too):

  14. Nov.14, 2014–BBC Anglophenia 2014 Favorite Man Round 3 could be a tougher challenge than it looks, so please vote for RA (early and often):

    Richard Armitage vs Martin Freeman

  15. Nov.15, 2014–An earlier post of mine about the BBC’s 2004 North & South, with a link to a fan made transcript of the four part series, shared at PeriodDrama.com:

  16. Nov. 15, 2014–And to remind us again about the timeless beauty of this love story, here is one of my favorite North & South fan videos for you to enjoy:

“North & South – The Tears of an Angel” by Angela Smith

  17. Nov. 15, 2014–A link to my earlier post of my N&S ficlet “Look Back, Look Back at me”(the Thornton image that inspired me was suggested by Kitty)

And here is the link to my graphic that I included with this post:

P.S. Sadly, the N&S fan video “This I promise you” by Illlna is no longer available.

  18. Nov. 15, 2014–Another earlier ficlet/poem of mine about John thinking about Margaret is found at

(N&S images courtesy of RANet & RAOnline)

  19. Nov.15, 2014–Continuing my prior N&S essays excavations, here is one of my earliest posts (#39), featuring those famous kisses:

  20. Nov. 15, 2014–Maria Grazei at her Fly High blog reposted her N&S Review in honor of the 10th Anniversary:

  23. Nov. 16, 2014–And then, of course, there are my two N&S fan fic novels that I have written:

    1) first link on my blog for “N&S: Nurturing Love”:

    2) first link on my Wattpad site for “N&S: Love Lessions” (a Wattys 2014 Award nominee; please vote for it if you feel so inclined. Thanks!):

  24. Nov. 16, 2014–A lovely N&S 10th Anniversary wallpaper by Thorin of Erebor

  25. Nov.18, 2014–From yesterday: Servetus shares her thoughts about that mesmirizing Thornton kiss:

And she kindly shares “That kiss” for illustration purposes:
