Author’s Recap from the Previous Chapter:   Sam Wakeforest learns that his and his wife Olivia’s baby’s room nursery designer is his former lover, Lola Campbell—now Lillian Campbell Warren.  And in telling Olivia about Lillian/Lola—with his sister Tessa’s help—Sam reveals that he would rather not have Lillian/Lola as their baby’s nursery room designer.  However, after giving her husband Sam a piece of her mind and then reconciling with him, Olivia hasn’t decided yet about the choice before her—to keep Lillian as their baby’s nursery room designer, or not.

“Love in the Great Pine Woods”, Ch. 31 (PG-13, D):   Awkward and Tense Moments

Later that Thursday night of May 5th, 1956 as Sam and Olivia Wakeforest lay in bed cuddling together after making love, they chat more about the situation—of having Sam’s former lover Lillian/Lola Campbell Warren designing their baby’s nursery room.  Their discussions go back and forth through the next day on Friday, about whether to continue with Lillian/Lola as their designer, or not.  Olivia’s decision wavers back and forth, whereas Sam is firmly in the no camp.

So on Saturday morning, May 7th, Sam and Olivia elect to visit the two other furniture stores near at hand—one store in Wakeforest and then one store in Valley View–where the Warren’s Furniture Store that Lillian and David Warren work at is also located—to see if they can find comparable furniture and design advice other than at the Warren’s Furniture Store.  After having mixed results in both cities, it is with great reluctance that Sam drives he and Olivia over to the Warren’s Furniture Store after lunch in Valley View—though Sam doesn’t plan on going into the store, to lessen the chance of running into either Lillian or David Warren.

Sam walks around his parked car one row back from the Warren Furniture Store front entrance and he holds out his hand to his wife Olivia, assisting her out of his car.  Olivia is into her fifth month of pregnancy now [(2) right] and starting to feel a bit ungainly in Olivia-wBabyBump-expanded-isEmily-Deschanel-wearing-HM-outfit-1-at2012PeoplesChoiceAwards_Apr0316via-bragmybagmoving around as she adjusts to her new center of gravity with the baby’s position in her womb.  But still, Sam is mesmirized by his wife Olivia’s beauty–she glows with her impending motherhood.  Sam feels that her blue and gray abstract print dress with capped sleeves is particularly fetching on her—almost hiding her baby bump, but not quite.   And the pride he feels in giving her their child in her womb is only marginally eclipsed by his solicitous concern for her welfare as the mother of his future child.

Sam:  “Are you sure you’ll be okay in the furniture store by yourself, Olivia?”  Sam asks worriedly.  He doesn’t want to go into Warren’s Furniture Store, but he doesn’t Olivia to be by herself should she need him, either.

Olivia: “Sam, I’ll be fine.”  She swishes her hand with a smile.  “But I really wish that you would change your mind and come with me.  I told you that I called the store this morning.  And they said that Lillian was not on the store’s work schedule today.”

Sam:  “I know.  It’s just …  It would be awkward to run into her or her husband David Warren just now.   The man practically told me he would beat me up if I go near his wife or if I have any interaction with her.”

Sam blanches.  Sam isn’t afraid of a fight between he and the slightly smaller but muscular David Warren.  Sam knows conceitedly that he would win in a hand to hand combat situation.   But Sam doesn’t want the stress of her seeing him physically in a fight, for Olivia in her delicate pregnant condition.  And if truth be told, Sam is hesitant about seeing Lillian/Lola again since they parted badly years ago.  Sam knows that he owes Lillian/Lola an apology for ending their sexual relationship so abruptly five years ago.  But he hasn’t figured out how to word it—nor even if he should attempt it given Lillian/Lola’s husband’s warnings for him to stay away.

Olivia: “Please?  For me?”  Olivia leans in to her husband, placing her hands on his chest and looking up at him hopefully.

The corner of Sam’s mouth turns upwards in a knowing smirk of a smile [(3) right] that is Sam-is-RichardArmitage-at2011CAnypremraclsaug0611ranet

only hidden from looking like a full smirk by his well groomed beard.  And Olivia’s husband Sam in his open collared dress shirt with a gray suit coat is an effortlessly handsome man in his dressy casual attire.  No flannel, plaid, or jeans for him today.  Sam cleans up well.
Sam: “You really don’t play fair with me, Olivia.  You know that I can’t refuse you when you look at me that way.”  Then Sam smiles with a little pout.

Olivia:  Olivia’s countenance brightens with a broad smile.  “So you’ll come see the gorgeous baby crib in Warren’s Furniture Store that I’d like us to consider buying for our baby?”

Sam nods.  But just then, their attention is averted by one of the Warren’s greeting them—Mr. Aldus Warren, the owner of Warren’s Furniture Store is also walking in from the parking lot with his wife carrying their baby grandson Duster.

Aldus Warren: “Mrs. Wakeforest!  I’m delighted to see you again so soon.”  Aldus Warren AldusWarren-isDonaldSutherland-at2013MonteCarloTVFestival-byDidierBaverel-Getty_Mar2016zimbio-sized-mask1smiles broadly as he stops in front of the Wakeforests and puts his arm around his petite wife Sylvia’s shoulders.  “Are you just arriving, or have we missed you?”  The older man’s shock of white hair [(4) right] is in stark contrast to his red stained cheeks—as if in a blush.

Sam’s head turns sharply at seeing the kindly looking older couple with the lady holding a large baby.  Sam thinking rightly that the baby must be a grandchild.

Olivia: “Oh!  Mr. Warren.  It is lovely to see you, too!  This is my husband, Sam.”  Sam flinches at the name Warren. “Sam, this is Mr. Aldus Warren the owner of Warren’s Furniture Store.”  Olivia introduces him blithely to Sam—though she can’t remember what Mr. Warren had earlier said his wife’s name is.

Aldus Warren: “Ah!  Hello.”  Mr. Warren shakes Sam’s hand.  “And this is my wife Sylvia and our grandson Duster.”

Mr. Warren smiles proudly.  His petite wife Sylvia is the love of his life for over fifty years—forty eight of them married. Her gentle smile, caring ways, and strength of spirit are all contained within her  short cropped curly pixie cut and her society matron’s pristine attire—that bears a bit of baby burping smudge on her coral colored suit jacket’s shoulder.  Sylvia Warren would have it no other way and wears her recently acquired baby burping smudge with a grandmother’s loving pride.

Olivia: “Oh, hello!  It’s lovely to meet you, Mrs. Warren.”  Olivia smiles sweetly.

Sylvia Warren: “Mrs. Wakeforest.”  Mrs. Warren nods with a gracious smile and adjusts her big baby grandson in her arms.

Aldus Warren:   “Sylvia Dear, this is the young couple Mr. and Mrs. Wakeforest from the Town of Wakeforest whom Lillian is designing their first baby’s nursery.”  He points to Olivia’s rather obvious baby bump.

Sam:  “Mr. and Mrs. Warren.”  Sam smiles cordially, if a bit nervously—given the fact that he realizes that these must be David Warren’s parents—and hence, Lillian/Lola’s in-lawas.  And Sam has a lingering guess as to who the parents are for the cute blond baby boy in a light blue romper suit—though Olivia had not told him Lillian’s baby’s name, Sam muses that the baby favors Lillian/Lola’s coloring as he remembers her.

Sylvia Warren:  “Wakeforest?  As in the town, the county, and the mountain?”  She asks interestedly.

Sam: “Yes, Maam.”  Sam says stoically.  He neither boasts nor shies away from his family’s prominence in settling the area and adding to its economic prosperity with both lumber and tourist industries on the mountain.  The whole community of Wakeforest benefits—and really the whole county of Wakeforest.

Sylvia Warren:  “Well, I declare, I never met anyone before who owned a mountain!”  She smiles up at Sam in astonishment.

Seeing her husband Sam’s discomfiture with his sheepish grin, Olivia interjects.

Olivia:  “The mountain does take a lot of Sam’s time between the lumber mill,  skiing trails in Winter and hiking trails in Summer, and the conservancy.”

Aldus Warren: “The conservancy?”  Mr. Warren inquires a bit breathily.

Sam:  “My family and I view ourselves as stewards of the Mountain, Mr Warren.”  Sam’s eyes narrow in concern.  “Pardon me, Sir, but are you feeling alright?  You look rather flushed and you seem to be breathing with difficulty.  Perhaps we should go inside and you can sit down?”  Sam gestures toward the Warren Furniture Store entrance as Aldus Warren tugs at his suit shirt collar.

Aldus Warren: “It is getting warmer these days.”  He admits with a sigh as he haltingly turns toward the store and waves at a young store clerk coming out to greet them.  Mr. Warren does not like to admit that his 70 years are catching up with him.

However with Sam wearing a suit coat as well, he does not feel over warm.  So Sam clasps Mr. Warren’s arm and gently turns the elderly man back toward facing him—Sam now seeing Mr. Warren’s perspiring face and him clenching and unclenching his left fist.
Sam: “Pardon me, Sir, but you don’t look well at all.  Let me drive you to the hospital nearby.”  Sam takes the not too heavy baby bag from Mr. Warren’s hand and puts it into his own car.

Aldus Warren:  “I don’t think …”

Sam:  “Sir, among other things, as a transport pilot in World War II, I was also trained in first aid and field medicine.  And as the Wakeforest Mountain Forest Ranger, I have kept up my medic training for mountain rescues.  I don’t want to scare you, Sir, but you might be having a heart attack.”

Sylvia: “Oh Aldus!  No!”  She looks fearfully between her husband Aldus and the younger strong looking man she just met, Sam Wakeforest.

Olivia puts her arms around Mrs. Warren and their baby grandson to comfort them.

Olivia:  “Let’s be cautiously optimistic—but prudent, by going to the hospital.”  The elderly couple nod at the kindly and surprisingly calm Olivia Wakeforest.

Aldus Warren:  He turns to the store clerk looking at him worriedly.  “Please let David and Lillian know that we are going to the hospital for them to examine me.”  The clerk nods and dashes back into the store.  Though the Warren’s have other children, David and his wife Lillian and their grandson Duster are the only ones who live in Valley View.

Sam: “Olivia, you drive with Mrs. Warren and the baby up front.  I’ll sit with Mr. Warren in the back seat so that I can monitor his vital signs.”

Everyone nods and does as Sam suggests.

***

During the two block drive to Valley View Hospital, Mr. Aldus Warren’s condition seems to worsen as he perspires more and Sam loosens the man’s  tie and opens his collar to try to give him some relief.  Sam checks Mr. Warren’s pulse every two minutes by putting two fingers on Mr. Warren’s neck by his jugular vein.   Mr. Warren doesn’t say anything, but looks worriedly at Sam.  Sam thinks that Mr. Warren’s pulse is very fast, but he doesn’t comment about it—Sam wants to try to keep Mr. Warren calm.
Then when they arrive at the Valley View Hospital Emergency Entrance, a wheel chair is quickly brought out to convey Mr. Warren inside.  Though tellingly for a heart attack, Mr. Warren vomits on the tips of his stylish leather Florsheim dress shoes.  As the orderly wheels Mr. Warren inside, Sam helps Mrs. Warren out of the car and into the hospital—with Sam carrying the Warren’s large baby grandson because Mrs. Warren is so fretful in this crisis that she is shaking too much to keep a proper hold on the baby.  Olivia drives Sam’s car fifteen feet to the hospital parking lot, parks it, then walks back to the Emergency Room Entrance.  Once inside, Sam hands the baby to Olivia who sits down in the Waiting Room to wait for news.

Mrs. Warren and Sam are shown back to the examination room area to talk to the doctor.  Sam is there for moral support as the petite Sylvia Warren seems very frail to him.  As Sam and Mrs. Warren wait outside the curtained cubicle for the Valley View hospital nurses to remove Mr. Warren’s clothing and start him on an IV for hydration, a doctor walks up to them.

Doctor Knight: “So are you Mr. Warren’s family?  What can you tell me about his symptoms?”

Sylvia Warren: “I’m Aldus’ wife, Sylvia Warren.  We’ve been married for forty eight years.  He’s hardly been sick a day in his life!  But today, he’s in so much pain.”  She looks at the doctor pleadingly.  The doctor winces, then looks up at Sam.

Sam: “I’m a …  My wife and I are customers of the Warren’s Furniture Store.  We came upon Mr. Warren as he was beginning to collapse in the store parking lot.  And I’m the Park Ranger for Wakeforest Mountain, Sam Wakeforest.  I’m trained in medical rescue and Mr. Warren is having a heart attack.”  Sam points at Mr. Warren.

Doctor Knight:  “Well, we’ll see about that.”  The doctor replies skeptically.  “It could be a stroke.”

Sam: “No!  He’s having a heart attack.  His pulse is fast, he’s perspiring, he has chest pain, his left arm is cramping on him painfully, and he threw up on his shoes when he arrived.”  Then Sam turns to Mrs. Warren, and takes the lead.  “Has your husband had a history of heart problems?”

Sylvia Warren: “Aldus has some angina.  But he doesn’t take pills for it.”  She looks between Sam and the doctor.

The nurse opens the curtains after undressing Mr. Warren and helping him into bed and starting an iv drip.  And they all three troop into the curtained exam room—the doctor, Mrs. Warren, and even Sam.  Mrs. Warren instantly goes to her husband’s right side and clasps his hand in hers  as she kisses his forehead.  They are a loving and devoted couple and even forty eight years together is not enough.

Speaking breathily through the oxygen masked placed over his nose and mouth, Aldus Warren tries to comfort his wife.

Aldus Warren:   “There there, Sylvia Dear.  I’ll be alright.”  But Aldus Warren is just as worried as the people looking at him.
Dr. Knight: “I’m Dr. Knight.  Where is your pain, Mr. Warren?”

Aldus Warren: “My chest, and my left arm.  It is unbearable.”  Mr. Warren reveals truthfully as he grimaces.

However Sam thinks that the elderly man is holding something back as the doctor hooks Mr. Warren up to an ECG machine [(5)] to monitor his heart beat rhythm.

Sam: “Is there anything else?”  The doctor looks up at Sam in annoyance, but turns to his patient.

Aldus: Looking sheepish, he admits.  “I threw up again.”

Sam looks over and sees what he presumes are Mr. Warren’s clothes stuffed into a bag, and his soiled shoes sitting separately on a plastic bag.

Dr. Knight:  Reading the ECG test strip printing out showing the abnormal heart rhythm, the doctor announces.  “You are having a mild heart attack, Mr. Warren.  We’re going to give you some medicine to lessen your symptoms and hopefully calm your heart rate.  If that doesn’t work, then we might have to shock your heart back into a proper sinus rhythm.”  With external defibrillation [(6)] only occurring more recently in the early to mid 1950’s.

Slyvia Warren: “Shock his heart!?!”  She asks in alarm.

Dr. Knight: “Yes, but for now, we’ll give your husband intravenous nitroglycerin.  Nurse.”  The doctor nods and the nurse ready with this standard treatment complies with a small dose of nitroglycerin [(7)] injected into the iv.  The medicine has the greatest effect within several minutes of the onset of symptoms—before a full heart attack occurs.  And Sam and Olivia had gotten the Warrens to the hospital so quickly that it is only ten minutes later.

Dr.   Knight: “Mr. Wakeforest, please guide Mrs. Warren to the waiting room while we tend to her husband.”  The doctor raises his eyebrow at Sam and Sam nods in compliance.

Sylvia Warren: “No!  I’m staying here.”  She squeezes her husband’s right hand and brings it up to her cheek.

Aldus Warren: “I’ll see you in a few moments, Sylvia Dear.”

Dr. Knight: Looking kindly at the elderly woman, the doctor lowers and gentles his vocal tone.  “Mrs. Warren, We’re just going to stabilize your husband before taking him to a hospital room for overnight observation.  We’ll come get you to rejoin him in 10 – 20 minutes.  Hmmm?”

Sam: Again taking charge, Sam gently puts his arms around Mrs. Warren’s shoulders.  “Come, Mrs. Warren.  Let the doctor do what he needs to do for your husband.”

Aldus Warren tries to smile at his wife as she is lead away by Sam, then he sinks back onto his pillow when she looks forward.  Mrs. Warren is so distressed that she is about ready to collapse herself as she and Sam walk back to the Emergency Room Waiting Room.  So Sam commandeers the wheel chair that had taken Mr. Warren back to the exam area and Sam gently places Mrs. Warren in the wheelchair and pushes her to the Waiting Room.

***

Once in the Emergency Room Waiting Room again, Sam helps Mrs. Warren to move from the wheel chair and to sit on the more comfortable looking couch where Olivia is sitting holding the now quite awake Warren’s baby grandson Duster.  Sam also relays to Olivia Mr. Warren’s health status.  Then Mrs. Warren takes her grandson back into her arms and rocks him—more to comfort herself than to comfort her grandson. However, the baby becomes fussy and wants a bottle.  But in their haste to get Mr. Warren inside, they had not brought the baby’s supplies bag in from the Wakeforest’s car.

Olivia: “Sam, I think the baby needs a bottle.”

Sylvia Warren: “There is a juice bottle in Duster’s baby bag.”  Mrs. Warren looks around her, then her face falls—her thinking in confusion that Duster’s baby’s bag is back in her car at the furniture store.  “Oh no! It’s not here!”

Sam: Sam snaps his fingers in remembrance. “The baby’s bag is in our car.  I’ll go get it.”  So Sam walks out to the hospital parking lot to get the Warren’s grandson’s baby bag from his car.  Sam thinks that when he and Olivia have their baby, that they will have to have a bag with baby necessities in it, too.

Then just as Sam closes his car door and turns to walk back to the hospital’s Emergency Entrance, he sees a couple dashing into it—recognizing them as David Warren, and what must be Lillian/Lola with him.  But he only sees her long blond hair flying in the wind.  Sam stills, freezing in place.  Sam’s attending to the medical crisis had completely overshadowed the fact in Sam’s mind that the man who is having a heart attack is David Warren’s father—Sam’s former lover Lillian/Lola’s father-in-law.

And now as Sam puts one hesitant foot in front of the other, he dreads the heightened stress of the situation for the Warren Family–of Mr. Warren’s heart attack—with Sam being present.

Inside the Hospital’s Emergency Room Waiting Room, David and Lillian instantly go to their mother and mother-in-law Sylvia Warren.  They hardly notice Olivia Wakeforest in their distress—with Lillian picking up her fussy baby into her arms from her mother-in-law and trying to calm him.  But baby Duster wants his bottle.

Lillian: “Shhh.  Shhh.  You’ll be okay, Duster.”  But Duster still fusses.

David: “Mama, where is Papa?”  David asks frantically as he sits beside his crying mother’s side and enfolds her in his embrace.

Sylvia Warren:  “Aldus is  back there.”  She points to an open doorway to the back hall where the examination rooms are.  But her tears erupt again and she can’t tell them more.

Olivia: “Mr. Warren, the doctor is trying to stabilize your father.  They think he’s having a mild heart attack and they want to keep him overnight for observation.”

Lillian and David each turn their heads and stare at Olivia.  Lillian stares because she can’t figure out why her possible design client and her former lover’s wife Olivia Wakeforest is here. And David stares because he doesn’t know who the woman is.
Lillian: “Olivia!”    Olivia stands and gives Lillian a hug.  All thoughts of Lillian being Olivia’s husband Sam’s former lover escapes Olivia’s mind at the moment.  And Olivia focuses upon trying to be of aide during this most difficult time for the Warrens.

David: “Olivia?  Do you know this lady, Lillian?”  David asks in confusion

Lillian: “Yes, David.  This is Olivia …”

Just then the doctor comes out to the waiting room to speak to the family.  And all eyes turn to him.  Sam has also just come in the entrance behind the Warrens and he stays at the door, out of sight.

Dr. Knight:  “Mrs. Warren?  Are these your children?”  He points to David and Lillian.  Mrs. Warren nods, still crying as her son David tries to comfort here.

David: “I’m David Warren, and this is my wife Lillian. You have my father back there.  Lillian-distressed-isTeriPolo-inNov2014-GDLA-interview-cap-Apr0316viayoutube-cropped-BrtHow is he?”  David’s concerned and earnest gaze [(8) right] speaks volumes about his love for his father.

Dr. Knight: “I’m Dr. Knight.  Your father is doing better than I expected–given that he’s had a mild heart attack.  We’ll keep him overnight to monitor him, then send him home with some meds tomorrow with instructions for bed rest for a week.  Mr. Warren, your father is an extremely  lucky man.  If the Wakeforests  hadn’t insisted upon bringing your father to the hospital right away when his symptoms started, there might have been an altogether different outcome.”  The doctor intones seriously, then looks over at Sam before he heads back to his patient.

David: “Wakeforests?”  David looks at the unknown woman—Olivia Wakeforest—sitting next to his mother.  Then David follows the doctor’s eyeline as he departs to see Sam Wakeforest standing in the entrance doorway holding their son’s baby bag.

Sam stands stoically to the side, wondering whether it is worse to have his former lover Lillian/Lola’s husband David staring him down, or having Lillian/Lola avoiding look at him.   Then in hearing the Warren’s baby fuss again, Sam steps forward.
Sam: “I believe that you need this.  Mrs. Aldus Warren asked me to fetch it for you from our car.”  Sam holds out the baby bag and David grudgingly takes it from him.

Narrowing his eyes suspiciously—noting how well-groomed Sam is and wondering if his wife Lillian has any lingering feelings for her former lover—David asks with barely concealed rage.

David:  “And why were you at our Furniture store today, Mr. Wakeforest?”  David is gritting his teeth at having to be in the presence of his wife Lillian’s former lover—with his wife and child in the room.  David Warren had expressly told Sam Wakeforest to stay away from his wife Lillian.  And here he is.

And as soon as Lillian saw Sam, she turned away from him and sat down—a look of stark

shock in her eyes [(9) right] —then she cuddles  her baby boy Duster in her arms. Lillian just wants Sam to leave.   She especially doesn’t want her in-laws to know about Sam.  And Sam makes no further move to walk forward toward any of them.  Olivia sits off to the side now in another chair, watching the scene through tense eyes.

Sylvia Warren:  “David? Mind your manners.  The Wakeforests are store clients of ours.  Lillian is to design their baby nursery.”

David:  “I’m aware of who Sam Wakeforest is.”  David says snidely with a steely eyed gaze.

David’s wife Lillian cringes inwardly.  Because Lillian knows, that her husband David knows, who Sam Wakeforest is to her—her former lover.

Olivia:  Olivia stands up, wanting to the give the Warren family their space. “We should go.”

Sylvia Warren:  Sylvia Warren smiles up at Olivia Wakeforest.  “Thank you and your husband for your help today, Dear.   You saved Aldus’ life.”  She then turns her grateful gaze to Sam Wakeforest and she bows her head.

Sam: Sam returns the courtesy.  “Mrs. Warren.”  He bows his head.

Then Olivia turns to Lillian who still has her eyes looking downward—her not knowing if Olivia knows who she is, Olivia’s husband Sam’s former lover.

Olivia: “Lillian?”  Olivia waits a moment for Lillian to raise her head to look at her in her eyes, before she continues.  “My husband and I realize that this health crisis in your family will naturally cause your attentions to be focused on that rather than design projects.  So I will call you in two weeks to reschedule your appointment to visit our home to measure our baby’s nursery space.”

Lillian:  “Yes. Thank you.”  Lillian says in a small voice.  But she still has a squirming baby on her hands.

Olivia: Olivia walks around the immovable David Warren and reaches her husband. “Sam?  Shall we go?”

Sam:  “Certainly.”  Sam steps forward and his wife Olivia steps into his light embrace.  “We hope that Mr. Warren has a complete recovery.”  Sam states graciously.  Then upon hearing the Warren baby fuss once more, Sam looks down at Olivia.

Olivia:  Turning to David Warren, she says.  “Mr. Warren, your mother said there was a juice bottle in the baby bag for your son.”

David: “Thank you.”  David replies woodenly as he sets the bag on a table and opens it up.  He hands the bottle to his wife, who gives it to their baby son Duster. The bottle calms their baby down immediately.

Sam still doesn’t know what to say in Lillian/Lola’s presence—let alone with Lillian’s husband standing guard and her unsuspecting mother-in-law nearby.  Though Sam does not wish to intrude upon Lillian/Lola’s present life and family, Sam feels that he owes her an explanation and an apology.  And he is right.

And for her part, Lillian glimpsing Sam looking so wonderfully handsome and hearing his lushly deep voice resonate in her ears is like a nagging reminder of what never was for her with him.  Though Lillian loves and is happy with her husband David—who treats her with love and respect–she still feels discarded by Sam.  And Lillian wonders still why Sam felt her so unworthy to be his wife all those years ago.  It is a question that she must stop asking herself if she is ever to let go of the past.

Sam and Olivia Wakeforest then leave Valley View hospital and the Warren family to head home.  Olivia feels surprisingly sanguine about being able to be in the presence of her husband’s former lover Lillian/Lola and her not feeling upset about it.  Yet Olivia has a nagging feeling that for Lillian, Sam is still unfinished business—but not in a romantic way.  And despite David Warren’s edict of Sam keeping away from his wife Lillian, maybe Sam will have to attempt his apology to Lillian Campbell Warren in person, if she is to move forward.

To be continued with Chapter 32

About Gratiana Lovelace

Gratiana Lovelace is my nom de plume for my creative writing and blogging. I write romantic stories in different sub genres. The stories just tumble out of me. My resurgence in creative writing occurred when I viewed the BBC miniseries of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel North & South in February 2010. The exquisitely talented British actor portraying the male lead John Thornton in North & South--Richard Crispin Armitage--became my unofficial muse. I have written over 50 script stories about love--some are fan fiction, but most are original stories--that I am just beginning to share with others on private writer sites, and here on my blog. And as you know, my blog here is also relatively new--since August 2011. But, I'm having fun and I hope you enjoy reading my blog essays and my stories. Cheers! Grati ;-> upd 12/18/11

It’s so lovely to see Olvia and Sam’s relationship develop. I love that Olvia’s strength is starting to show more and more as her confidence grows. Thanks Grati. xxx

    • Hi Evie, Thanks for your lovely note! And I’m delighted that you perceive Olivia’s growing confidence now that she is in a loving and affirming relationship with Sam. And Sam is also beginning to question his past actions in terms of how they impacted others–in this case, Lillian/Lola. Glad that you enjoyed it! Cheers! Grati ;->
