“The Lords of the North: She Took My Hand” a Richard Armitage Audiobook Narration Excerpt, 11/07/12 Gratiana Lovelace (Post #302)

I love hearing Richard Armitage’s velvety deep baritone voice–and the many ways he intones various character personae–tell me a story.  I just finished listening to his reading/performance of  “The Convenient Marriage” [(1)]  again last weekend.  Heaven!

And now, my dear sweet husband is buying me the Richard Armitage narrating the 12 hours of Bernard Cornwell’s “The Lords of the North” audiobook [(2)] for my birthday soon.   Well, he bought it for me yesterday. Ha!

And as always, I make most of my purchases through the RichardArmitageNet Amazon Associate link [(3)] because RANet donates their commissions to one of Richard Armitage’s chosen charities.  Snap!

So for fun–and because I am trying to rest my eyes–I thought I would make a simple little video of Richard Armitage reading a LOTN excerpt courtesy of the Richard Armitage Central audiobooks downloads site [(4)].

So here is my little video [(5)] of the sweetly romantic:  “Richard Armitage Reading LOTN:  She Took My Hand”:

About “The Lords of the North” Narrator:
British actor Richard Armitage [(6)] looks appropriately rakish in  the 2007 portrait at right—the year in which he narrated “Lords of the North”.

In 2007 when the 12 hour audio book “The Lords of the North” was released, Richard Armitage had already become a respected and much sought after actor–then currently starring in Robin Hood (2006-2009) as Sir Guy of Gisborne after having found fame and recognition with his 2004 leading role as John Thornton in the “North & South” miniseries on BBC and with an earlier pivotal role in the 2002 “Sparkhouse” mini series.  Richard Armitage has gone on to successful lead actor turns as Lucas North in “Spooks” (2008-2010), and John Porter in “Chris Ryan’s Strike Back”, series 1 (2010).   And Richard Armitage is soon to be seen portraying the leading role of Thorin Oakenshield in the three “The Hobbit” feature films (2012, 2013 2014).

An exquisitely talented actor/narrator/performer, Richard Armitage is a masterful storyteller!   Mr. Armitage’s attention to detail about his characters’ personae and  his sincerity of portrayal lend an air of authenticity  to his characters that few actors of his generation achieve.  Richard Armitage’s artistic projects are so prolific and varied that I urge you to visit  the RANet Career News page [(7)] to learn more about him.    You will be glad that you did!

Bonus!:
I found this other LOTN audio excerpt video of Richard Armitage portraying an older character that you will also enjoy as a counterpoint to my video excerpt reading with a younger character.  Think of them as romantic youth and vigor versus aged wisdom born of experience–and these videos help illustrate the wide range of characters that Richard Armitage has the talent to portray.   So, please also enjoy a video by Faboamanto, “Lords of the North (Excerpt) Read by Richard Armitage – Happy Birthday RA” [(8)]:

About Gratiana Lovelace

Gratiana Lovelace is my nom de plume for my creative writing and blogging. I write romantic stories in different sub genres. The stories just tumble out of me. My resurgence in creative writing occurred when I viewed the BBC miniseries of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel North & South in February 2010. The exquisitely talented British actor portraying the male lead John Thornton in North & South--Richard Crispin Armitage--became my unofficial muse. I have written over 50 script stories about love--some are fan fiction, but most are original stories--that I am just beginning to share with others on private writer sites, and here on my blog. And as you know, my blog here is also relatively new--since August 2011. But, I'm having fun and I hope you enjoy reading my blog essays and my stories. Cheers! Grati ;-> upd 12/18/11

    Hi Grati,
    I’m glad that you’ll get The Lords of the North Audiobook soon – what a wonderful gift from your hubby!
    Rich’s voice is like chocolate: delicious and addictive, but with the advantage of not adding any weight to our Silhouette. :)

    • Hi Fabi,
      Chocolate is a delicious image for Richard Armitage’s voice. And I love how he assumes different vocal accents or dialects for his characters–taking on these new vocal characterizations as if he had spoken in these accents his whole life.

      But that is Richard Armitage’s gift, to immerse himself so completely in his storytelling that he becomes his characters–be they old or young, male or female, strong or weak. With Mr. Armitage spinning tales to excite our imaginations, we feel as if we are being told the story by the person who lived and breathed each moment.

      And my listening to 12 hours of Richard Armitage narrating and storytelling LOTN is defintely going to be a wonderful experience for me!

      Cheers! Grati ;->

  3. Grati, I hope I misread and you didn’t buy LOTN from Amazon? It can’t be bought from Amazon, (here or UK) contact the seller (it could only be a resale) and VERIFY it is the RA version,

    • Hi Fanny,
      Thanks for the tip. Actually, I remembered that I was delayed in placing that LOTN order. And in checking on the RANet site again, I see a non-Amazon link with which to purchase it–from AudioGO. So all is well.
      Cheers! Grati ;->

      P.S. For others wanting to order LOTN, here is the RANet info link:

  4. Phew! I’m not sure if you can order it online now, (officially they wouldn’t ship abroad) but calling or in my case via email they were happy to accomodate!

  5. March 29, 2014–We didn’t end up buying the Lords of the North audiobook at the time of this post, and it became unavailable. There is a slim chance that it will be reissued. Let’s hope so. And as soon as it is, I am snapping it up for my Richard Armitage audiobook collection!
